Residential Solar Power Installation Guidelines

Before you invest in an expensive residential solar power system, you should make sure your home is a good candidate for a solar power system. Many homes do not make good candidates for residential solar power, so it is in your best interest to determine if you will have a good return on your investment.

Determining If Your Home Is Right For Residential Solar Power

The first thing to consider is what kind of climate you have.  People in Florida, Phoenix and Southern California are much better candidates for residential solar power than people in Seattle, Washington.  We are not saying that people in Seattle can not use solar power energy in their homes,  but their investment return will probably be lower than someone in the sunny south or southwest.

The next thing to consider is the age of your home. Older homes frequently do not make as good aof use out of residential solar power as newer homes since the cost to update the home to where solar power is viable is often very high.  Old windows, older appliances, and home insulation techniques make older homes very difficult to keep warm and power.  They will benefit from a complete  solar power system but it would be significantly more expensive to install than in a newer or brand new home.

You also need to look at how much power you use on a monthly basis. View your past electric bills to find this information.  If you use a lot of power you are a good candidate for residential solar power.  Just about anyone can benefit from residential solar power, but you need to weigh the cost verses the benefits when deciding whether it is worth it to invest in the system.

Look through the items listed above and at least you will have an idea of what your home power consumption looks like.  Even if you decide not install a residential solar power system, this may help you  save money on your electricity bill long term.
